A Study on Urban Inundation Using SWMM in Busan, Korea, Using Existing Dams and Artificial Underground Waterways

The annual average rainfall in Busan area is increasing, causing frequent flooding of Busan’s Suyeong and Oncheon rivers. Due to the increase urbanized areas climate change, it difficult reduce flood damage. Therefore, new methods are needed urban inundation. This study models effects three reduction involving River, Hoedong Dam, which situated on Suyeong. Using EPA-SWMM, a virtual model dam rivers was created, then modified with changes dam’s height, installation floodgate dam, creation an underground waterway carry excess flow from Dam. results this show that increasing height by 3 m, 4 or 6 m led 27%, 37%, 48% flooding, respectively, River. It also found installing 10 × 15 20 min would result 2.7% 2.9%, respectively. Furthermore, construction could lead expected 25% Measures such as these offer potential protect lives property citizens densely populated develop sustainable cities communities. modifications proposed considered be useful.
